September, 2024. Featuring Dred Scott, Moses Patrou, Tom Beckham and Matt Pavolka. Recorded at Big Orange Sheep, Brooklyn, NY. March 27th and May 4th 2023 by Chris Benham. Denny Abrams, producer, executive producer. Graphic design by Tom Beckham.
Dred Scott cultivated a deep fondness for the Pacific Jazz Label's music. Operating from 1952 to the 60s as World Pacific Records, it epitomized West Coast jazz. Characterized by its coolness rather than virtuosity, the label featured artists like Shorty Rogers, Shelly Manne, and Chet Baker. This laid-back, accessible music evoked memories of Highway 1 drives, Golden Gate Park, and serene coastal concerts. Despite the label's LA origins, it served as the backdrop to Dred Scott’s years in the Bay Area in Oakland and San Francisco.

These songs were written during an artist residency in Ucross, Wyoming. They were recorded over one week at the Art Farm in Sebastopol, Ca. Dred played all the instruments on the recording - piano, bass and drums. 'The search for beauty - that's the thing.' Denny Abrams
"El Siempre Mar," an album that pays homage to the centuries-old cultural exchange between peninsular Spain and Latin America, delves into the world of flamenco 'roundtrip songs' known as "cantes de ida y vuelta." Pianist Emilio Solla and saxophonist/vocalist Antonio Lizana lead this exploration, drawing from their mutual love for the same musical forms. The album features a diverse and skilled rhythm section, including bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer/percussionist Ferenc Nemeth. Latin-GRAMMY® nominated vocalist Roxana Amed and a guest string quartet also contribute. The music blends improvisation, influences from both sides of the ocean, and a range of emotions, creating a unique and meaningful sonic journey. The album's title, "El Siempre Mar," encapsulates the connection between Solla's Argentina and Lizana's Spain, symbolizing unity across the vast Atlantic Ocean.
In 2013, Emilio Solla became Music Director for a tango series at Zinc Bar, NYC, joining forces with bandoneonist Rodolfo Zanetti and bassist Pablo Aslan. This collaboration deepened his connection to his homeland's music. After three years of weekly performances, the trio recorded "Tributango," featuring Solla's arrangements of tango classics and original compositions, capturing the essence of dance.
